ERICK THE ARCHITECT SELFISH (FEAT. PIP MILLETT)

Erick the Architect dropped two poignantly titled singles, 'WTF (feat. Col3trane)' and 'Let It Go (feat. Loyle Carner & Farr)', in the run up to Future Proof, Erick's solo debut, after a career that before now, has centred around his group Flatbush Zombies. In the new album, it's clear to see that Erick is digging beneath the surface lyrically, addressing the race struggles of black Americans, as well as contemplating his own state of mind, in the reflective track 'Die 4 U'. 'Selfish', feat. Pip Millet is the last track on the record, as well as the slowest. There's a sense of conclusion within Erick's composed vocals from the opening line, 'I ain't been this hurt, ever, and we deserve better, when you see destruction, there's corruption, then there's vendetta', referring to the ongoing race struggle in America. Pip Millet's verse is affecting and sombre, embellished with heart-wrenching strings. 'Selfish' is the song that digests the album Future Proof and leaves you with a sense of satisfaction and contemplation . -Ellie Rose-Davies
